Check out some of the valid Destiny complaints

At this point, I'm going to consider that they certainly merit further investigation.

    ...with the following caveats:

"Unclean and broken" is fairly vague, and requires some specifics [I'm too lazy right now to go see if there were any details in the original kvetch].

"No electiricity"? or not many electrical outlets?  One is probably a circuit breaker [tripped because someone nearby is drawing off too many amps by running every household appliance they brought along off one power strip], the other is to prevent people from thinking they can bring every household appliance they own on vacation with them and suck down all the power on the boat.

"No working plumbing" often requires an application of Drano, and if that's the case it's a minor annoyance with a simple fix.  We went to the bar for a drink when this happened to us; we didn't have a meltdown.  Ditto the non-draining shower.  If someone flushed a tampon [or a larger version of similar], then the toilet is going to be blocked until one of the Filipino maintenance workers crawl between decks to sort it out.  Let your steward know, but blame the prior passengers who can't read.

Every "non-working television" we've ever had [and there've been two] has been the result of dead batteries in the remote.  They'll change them if asked.

Further review? Sure.  Cause for an individual meltdown? no.

And frankly, holding up the departure of a ship because the AC is on the fritz in two port cabins on the Empress Deck is not going to happen.

Ken - I'm with you. You know the shower is not draining properly - they didn't mention if they reported it or now..but common sense (dangerous concept) tells you if the shower is not draining don't use it..instead report it for repairs.

I also noticed the "American" comments...I am a PROUD American. You wanted Tea in your room AND an iron? If you have read the Carvnical "know before you go" you would have known they don't provide/allow irons in the guest cabins (fire hazard). You never once mentioned seeking assistance from your cabin steward just whine, whine, whine....

     Now - my comments:

Let's see ..you could have asked room service (available 24/7) for "tea" in your cabin but...whining about it after the fact appears to make you feel better...

You might prefer Princess, Royal Caribbean or Norwegian...I've sailed all three...

Well..I personally think a bad cruise day beats a good day at work any timebut...I'm just an American...what do I know?

anywho... I'm sailing on 11/9 on the Victory..WHoOoOo HoOOoOo and I'm STILL counting the days Drinks Cool

No.....some people had no toilets for the ENTIRE cruise. Neither I nor they had a meltdown. They just expected plumbing. Hardly an extraordinary request.

Others had NO electricity in their cabins and others had no a/c...for the whole trip. It wasn';t a circuit breaker they flipped, the wiring was faulty and Carnival rented the cabin anyway.

The TVs were never hooked to their cable in the hallway access panel. That's why they never worked.  It had nothing to do with dead batteries in a remote.

Before you start running your mouth about something you know absolutely nothing about, do some homework. Your posts are insulting and idiotic to those of us who had serious problems with the maintenance of this ship.

It appears that you have some valid complaints about your cruise. However, from your post, it is not clear if you ever complained to your steward or other personnel on the ship who could have taken care of the problems at that time. If you had done that & still gotten no satisfaction, you should have written a strongly worded letter directly to Carnival when you returned home. They would most likely have apologized & offered you a discount on a future cruise (which I doubt you would take). Instead of writing a letter to the company, you wrote your diatribe here on Carnival Connections.  If you've read many posts here, you will see that the majority of people here love their Carnival Fun Ships & will defend them to the death. It appears that you did not "do some homework" before you took your cruise or you would have had a better idea about the party atmosphere & activities onboard. We "Americans" tend to like the activities onboard. If that makes us uncouth bumpkins, so be it.

Before you start running your mouth about something you know absolutely nothing about, do some homework.

First, I am not running my mouth, I am running my fingers.

If you're going to be a pedantic gluteal orifice, then so will I  ... and I'll tell you right now, I can do it better than you.

Second, there is no "homework" I can do.  I am not in the position of being able to call Carnival and inquire after specific piss-n-moans that you are making public; what you are peevishly demanding that everyone do [and especially me, since I dared to challenge you on it] is to accept your [vague] word as gospel without corroboration, and strictly on faith.  I'll tell you right now: that ain't gonna happen.  I take nothing on faith.

I will grant that your list of travails is possible, particularly any one of them.  All of them together? happening to one small select group of people?  Either the universe ganged up on you that day [which is unlikely], or Carnival deliberately conspired to accomplish this [which is psychotic], or you are exaggerating.

I've already conceded all that I am ever likely to concede: that these claims deserve further review.  But instead of being happy with that, you decide that you wish to place a target on your back.

    Fine with me.

Even if I were in the position of being able to independently verify your litany of wet-panty whinings, I would not do so, for that would mean that I would be going to actual effort here, and on your behalf.  Frankly bub, before I go to effort on anyone else's behalf, there's gotta be something in it for me.  There isn't.

I have your word ... which is chock full of pouty pouty self-indulgence, and I have my experience which tells me that these things are not likely to have occured in the way you described them.

I don't know if you understand the concept of Occam's Razor but I always shave with it.  My first impression is that you were exaggerating.  It is still my impression.  Yours is an uphill argument and being a petulant weenie, as you just were, isn't helping your cause.

Your posts are insulting and idiotic to those of us who had serious problems with the maintenance of this ship.

And yours are insulting and idiotic to those who have never experienced any such gang-tackle of abuses, and resent the tone you are taking and the implications that come with it.

Guess we're even in that regard.

Neither I nor they had a meltdown.

You are having one now.  You had one earlier when listed your prior grievances.

Needs To Go Back To Dry Dock
We arrived at the Port of Miami via Carnival's Bus at approximately 12 noon. Embarkation took over 5 1/2 to six hours. Everyone was forced to wait out in the hot heat at the Port. No one was allowed in the Port other than to use the bathroom. We received several stories in regards to the delay. One Carnival employee told us a crane had to be moved. Another one told us there was a problem getting the crew on board. Another one told us the computers were down and they had to check everyone in manually. A supervisor told us The Ships Not Ready. Thats the one we went with, cause she was absolutely right.

Cabin: We got on the ship approximately 6 pm and proceeded to our cabin, just in time for the toilet to overflow and flood the bathroom and the cabin. No we hadn't even had a chance to use it yet. Our cabin, definitely not refurbished during the dry dock. The wall paper was ripped in several spots, the safe broken, the closet door didn't close all the way, the light switch was lose and had separated from the wall. The over flowed toilet was the last we saw of plumbing for the rest of the week. No toilet, no plumbing, no nothing, for the entire trip. We came to find out that we were not the only ones, The Crew cabins and many other guest cabins had the same problem. For you cabin guru's, this cabin was a disaster. But our cabin steward he was great.

Public Areas: The new carpeting was never completed and we walked over plywood nailed to the floor. Part of the Spa deck was closed and we did notice packing crates in different locations. The elevators didn't work properly and a few were shut down. The gift shops were good.

Lido Deck: After being on 9 Carnival Cruises, I can say the only refurbishment on this deck was the new seaside theatre screen. It worked wonderfully. But they only put the movies on at 2 pm. We came back on from the island to see the credits for "50 First Dates". We would have loved to be able to watch a movie out on the deck at night. Not everyone sailing is into MTV music videos, which is pretty much all that played on the big screen. There was a section of the deck by the pool that was closed off for repairs, and quite a bit of rust.

The Universe Dining Room: Electrical problems with the lights, they kept going dim and then getting real bright. This went on every night for the entire cruise. Our wait staff was great. Food was okay. Not up to the other Carnival ships that I have sailed on.

Staff: for the most part friendly.

    Entertainment: Okay.

Day One: We didn't sail till almost 9 pm out of Miami, so there was no sail away party. Many guests were annoyed, 6 hours to get on the ship, and a few hours more, while they finished loading it. The pools remained closed the whole time, they did not open till the next day, everything was closed, the shops were closed, nothing to do.

The ship itself: worn and in need of alot more than a spit polish. According to the plumber, the ship had engine problems, the vacuum system wasn't working properly, and they had problems with the big pipes below. That explained no plumbing. And Out of the mouth of a higher up Carnival employee on this ship "The ship never should of sailed". We agree 100%!

Overall, I really enjoyed the cruise, but really hated the ship condition and maintenance schedule. I live in Florida, so I could have taken two 7 day cruises for the investment that I had in this one (Flights, taxi's, etc.) I would have cancelled, and re-booked on another cruise if I knew about the construction.

The Destiny was nothing short of a train wreck. It started off on the first night when my son went to visit his favorite Club O2, and it was closed and gutted. It took him and us several calls and two days to get someone to get Club O2 information to us. the kids were not really happy as they were shuffled from room to room many times daily. There was construction going on at every turn. Bathrooms being redone, and retiled, Carpets being torn up and replaced, Welding here and welding there. Equipment, Boom trucks, Large metal containers even closed off areas of the decks. We came back from an excursion one day and went to our room to discover that the A/C was not working and it smelled horribly of Welding... we had to leave and complain.. I am tolerant of alot of things, but this got my temperature up. In port they were grinding, painting, and fixing things all over. I would have never book this knowing all of this. It went way beyond normal or routine maintenance. They began a refurbishment while customer where on board!

Very strange.... I was on the Destiny from 9/21 to 9/27 ... I saw none of these things.

My plumbing was fine.. my power was fine....

I saw no welding or carpeting issues....

    The food was great...

The ports of call were wonderful...

The cabin and restaurant staff were exemplary....

I've got nothing to complain about (except the assistant cruise director) and  no reason to claim compensation!!...

    Am I missing something??

Also..... I choose not to remain anonymous.... I think anonymity takes credibility from  a post!!

Question for rwilymz.... were you on the Destiny for the 9/21 cruise?  Because if you weren't you really have noithing to say.  I personally was on this cruise.  I personally had no plumbing and no toilet for the entire cruise.  It wasn't working from day 1.  Nothing we did, and nothing the passengers before us did.  We were told by the maintenance supervisors and a ships officer that their vacumn system kept shutting down, and they had engine problems and problems with the pipes below. Out of the mouth of the ships officer in our cabin "This ship was not ready to sail"   And no, not all of us  took our  frustrations to the online boards here.  I took all of them to Carnivals Corporate headquarters (after I got no where on the ship) You can make lite of the fustrations, aggravations and problems that people experienced on this ship.  But unless you were personally on it.  You don't have a clue!  If you would like to know facts about this cruise, I will be more than happy to discuss them with you.  Facts that pertain to our cabin and our problems on board.  Then you will have something ligitament to pick apart with your mumbo jumbo.  As a 9 time Carnival cruiser, I applaud the ships officer that was in our cabin and had the decency and honesty to admit the ship wasn't ready to sail.
